the race.

6 06 2008

I haven’t been to update in so long but I had to comment on one thing; the fact that Hillary Clinton is supposed to be dropping out of the democratic presidential nomination race this weekend and conceding to Barack Obama.  It’s been an interesting, tumultuous race to say the least.  But I am glad, despite probably staying in a little long, that she is doing what is right for the party instead of further dividing the people.

I also hate that stupid, insincere twat.  So YAY Hillary!

obama all but locks down the nomination.

21 05 2008

After yesterday’s victory in Oregon, it looks like our homeboy Barack Obama is only 66 delegates away from locking down the Democratic nomination.  Despite her win in Kentucky, Hillary is still too far behind.

It just goes to show that people want something positive.  Maybe it’s fluff, maybe it’s naive hope.  But we’ve had enough mud-slinging and negativity in America to last the next four years.  Obama finally and galvanized a generation of people into voting and getting more educated than ever about the issues.

Now that Obama has such a chokehold on America’s heart, when will Hillary finally bow out and stop dividing her party?  When will she realize that it’s best for the Democrats to not make them choose anymore and do what’s best for the country, not for her enormous, sad ego?  There has been a hell of a race and monumental for things in America and the world over.  But let’s give it a rest and think about the big picture and what needs to happen in November.

interesting fact.

William Howard Taft.  The 27th president of the US…Wilfred Brimley’s dad….and the inspiration for maternity jeans.  Mustache rides, one nickel!

After I pumped $40 worth of gas into my hot ride this morning (still not filling up my awesome beast of a crossover vehicle), I was listening to the radio in the car and I heard a very interesting fact.  Seven years ago, when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney came into office, the going rate for a barrel of oil was $27.  Today, give or take a buck or two, since it’s always fluxuating, a barrel of oil will run you approximately $117.

I get it.  It’s a free enterprise, capitalist system we have here in America and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else on Planet Earth.  But what the hell?  Way to line the pockets of your already rich friends, oil-fueled White House.  I can picture it now; the Halliburton folks and all of Dubs’ old cronies in Texas are enjoying their new in-ground swimming pools and new, younger, hotter, stupider wives’ string bikins…all courtesy of the US of A’s insatiable appetite for foreign oil.  Fantastic.

This coming from a (now borderline) Republican?  This coming from a girl who was raised by a Vietnam Vet who owned his own successful small business in an affluent suburb consisting of approxmately 97% Caucassian neighbors?  This from a pro-life Christian against entitlement?

I don’t know everything there is to know about politics, nor do I want to.  There are more important things in life, like family, friends and expensive pairs of shoes making my calves look slim and sexy.  But I guarantee that this administration hasn’t been the first to take advantage of their positions of power.  This got me thinking though.  What were the perks of being friends of presidents in the past?  If Bush’s tycoon buddies were swimming in it, what were our founding fathers siphoning off for their buddies?

Was George Washington cutting deals with dentists (AKA: carpenters)?

Was Thomas Jefferson providing lonely bachelors with beautiful, hard-working, especially “tan” wives?

Did Abraham Lincoln corner the market for ridiculous top hats?

Was William Howard Taft making extra seats at the buffet? (From the looks of it, he had some other form of payola…sexy beast.)

Did JFK get all of his friends hot actress bitches to adulter with?  They do birthday parties!

Was Bill Clinton coordinating blow jobs for sad, Arkansas ingrates right and left?

Better yet…what would each of the candidates running for Commander in Chief today have to offer their nearest and dearest upon their election to office?  Free power suits from Hillary?  Lifetime supply of Depends from McCain?  I guess only time will tell.

there is a first time for everything.

Now, if there is one person I hate more with my whole being in this universe more than Hillary Clinton, it might be Michael Moore.  He’s extreme, generally ludicrous in logic and rarely says anything that doesn’t infuriate me to no end.  I am confident he is going to Hell for capitalizing on people’s pain, and his hate-mongering against the government and scare tactics.  Any day, before today, I would have chipped in to buy the bullets to shoot this idiot, even if the bullet money was being collected at the plate at church and my pastor was going to be doing the deed himself.

But earlier today, I read an open letter he wrote to the people of Pennsylvania, regarding their voting in the primary today.  I don’t know if someone with such controversial stances and historically inflammatory remarks about every topic under the sun can really influence the average American to consider his views, but he almost has something legitimate and not retarded to say.  I am borderline impressed that Moore is actually making an effort, at least this once, to not being a huge, gaping asshole in the face of the public.  I am completely beside myself, coming to the realization that Michael Moore and I might agree about anything, ever (I’m not expecting to ever agree with him again after today, but I give credit where it’s due).

My opinion - it’s takes a raging, hateful idiot to know an idiot.  And Michael Moore is calling out Hillary Clinton - the first time I have heard anyone come out so publicly to finally confront Hillary and her campaign for their mud-slinging and typical political slander.  But I’ll let you take it for what you will and make your own decisions.  Read the aforementioned letter below:

Friends,

I don’t get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn’t get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.

So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote — and yours — on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

I haven’t spoken publicly ’til now as to who I would vote for, primarily for two reasons: 1) Who cares?; and 2) I (and most people I know) don’t give a rat’s ass whose name is on the ballot in November, as long as there’s a picture of JFK and FDR riding a donkey at the top of the ballot, and the word “Democratic” next to the candidate’s name.

Seriously, I know so many people who don’t care if the name under the Big “D” is Dancer, Prancer, Clinton or Blitzen. It can be Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Barry Obama or the Dalai Lama.

Well, that sounded good last year, but over the past two months, the actions and words of Hillary Clinton have gone from being merely disappointing to downright disgusting. I guess the debate last week was the final straw. I’ve watched Senator Clinton and her husband play this game of appealing to the worst side of white people, but last Wednesday, when she hurled the name “Farrakhan” out of nowhere, well that’s when the silly season came to an early end for me. She said the “F” word to scare white people, pure and simple. Of course, Obama has no connection to Farrakhan.

But, according to Senator Clinton, Obama’s pastor does — AND the “church bulletin” once included a Los Angeles Times op-ed from some guy with Hamas! No, not the church bulletin!

This sleazy attempt to smear Obama was brilliantly explained the following night by Stephen Colbert.

He pointed out that if Obama is supported by Ted Kennedy, who is Catholic, and the Catholic Church is led by a Pope who was in the Hitler Youth, that can mean only one thing: OBAMA LOVES HITLER!

Yes, Senator Clinton, that’s how you sounded. Like you were nuts. Like you were a bigot stoking the fires of stupidity. How sad that I would ever have to write those words about you. You have devoted your life to good causes and good deeds. And now to throw it all away for an office you can’t win unless you smear the black man so much that the superdelegates cry “Uncle (Tom)” and give it all to you.

But that can’t happen. You cast your die when you voted to start this bloody war. When you did that you were like Moses who lost it for a moment and, because of that, was prohibited from entering the Promised Land.

How sad for a country that wanted to see the first woman elected to the White House. That day will come — but it won’t be you. We’ll have to wait for the current Democratic governor of Kansas to run in 2016 (you read it here first!).

There are those who say Obama isn’t ready, or he’s voted wrong on this or that. But that’s looking at the trees and not the forest. What we are witnessing is not just a candidate but a profound, massive public movement for change. My endorsement is more for Obama The Movement than it is for Obama the candidate.

That is not to take anything away from this exceptional man. But what’s going on is bigger than him at this point, and that’s a good thing for the country. Because, when he wins in November, that Obama Movement is going to have to stay alert and active. Corporate America is not going to give up their hold on our government just because we say so. President Obama is going to need a nation of millions to stand behind him.

I know some of you will say, ‘Mike, what have the Democrats done to deserve our vote?’ That’s a damn good question. In November of ‘06, the country loudly sent a message that we wanted the war to end. Yet the Democrats have done nothing.

So why should we be so eager to line up happily behind them?

I’ll tell you why. Because I can’t stand one more friggin’ minute of this administration and the permanent, irreversible damage it has done to our people and to this world. I’m almost at the point where I don’t care if the Democrats don’t have a backbone or a kneebone or a thought in their dizzy little heads. Just as long as their name ain’t “Bush” and the word “Republican” is not beside theirs on the ballot, then that’s good enough for me.

I, like the majority of Americans, have been pummeled senseless for 8 long years. That’s why I will join millions of citizens and stagger into the voting booth come November, like a boxer in the 12th round, all bloodied and bruised with one eye swollen shut, looking for the only thing that matters — that big “D” on the ballot.

Don’t get me wrong. I lost my rose-colored glasses a long time ago.

It’s foolish to see the Democrats as anything but a nicer version of a party that exists to do the bidding of the corporate elite in this country. Any endorsement of a Democrat must be done with this acknowledgement and a hope that one day we will have a party that’ll represent the people first, and laws that allow that party an equal voice.

Finally, I want to say a word about the basic decency I have seen in Mr. Obama. Mrs. Clinton continues to throw the Rev. Wright up in his face as part of her mission to keep stoking the fears of White America.

Every time she does this I shout at the TV, “Say it, Obama! Say that when she and her husband were having marital difficulties regarding Monica Lewinsky, who did she and Bill bring to the White House for ’spiritual counseling?’ THE REVEREND JEREMIAH WRIGHT!”

But no, Obama won’t throw that at her. It wouldn’t be right. It wouldn’t be decent. She’s been through enough hurt. And so he remains silent and takes the mud she throws in his face.

That’s why the crowds who come to see him are so large. That’s why he’ll take us down a more decent path. That’s why I would vote for him if Michigan were allowed to have an election.

But the question I keep hearing is… ‘Can he win? Can he win in November?’ In the distance we hear the siren of the death train called the Straight Talk Express. We know it’s possible to hear the words “President McCain” on January 20th. We know there are still many Americans who will never vote for a black man. Hillary knows it, too. She’s counting on it.

Pennsylvania, the state that gave birth to this great country, has a chance to set things right. It has not had a moment to shine like this since 1787 when our Constitution was written there. In that Constitution, they wrote that a black man or woman was only “three fifths” human. On Tuesday, the good people of Pennsylvania have a chance for redemption.

Yours,
Michael Moore

a shout-out.

The Pennsylvania primary is tomorrow.  Do the right thing, my fellow Yankees.

Hillary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea comes and visits soldiers of the war in Iraq. She interviews one of them.

“What are the three things your scared of most?”, she asked.

The soldier replies “Well, first would be Osama, then Obama, and then yo mamma.”

super tuesday jr.: barack vs. hillary.

5 03 2008

Last night, the results came in from Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island and unfortunately for us Barack fans, he lost a little ground with HIllary narrowly edging him out in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island.  Of course, even after last night, our hope crusader is still in the mix and still ahead by quite a few delegates…but the next six weeks and the superdelegates could definitely swing the candidacy either way.

I read this article today about how Texas caucuses played out as well, which was helpful for the baRACKING and rolling of America, but this one is definitely WAY too close to call yet.  It will be interesting how the next few weeks pan out.  If Hillary’s hate-mongering, mud-slinging and negative campaigning will work, or if people really do believe in the optimistic, hope-based candy, balloons and puppies Obama are promoting.  Only time will tell.

Additionally, John McCain secured the GOP nomination last night as well, pushing Mike Huckabee out of the race…and leaving Ron Paul on a street corner somewhere in front of a few stacked up milk crates, debating no one about the War in Iraq.

Kenny Loggins and Yoko Ono?  Close.  Bill and Hill.  Doucheing it up.

baRACK the Vote, Ohio and Texas!

4 03 2008

Today is the big political showdown in Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island.  While the race for Republicans is pretty clear-cut, the Democrats definitely have their work cut out for them.  I have roots in Ohio and Texas and whatever it is….it’s like these two states tend to be big dealbreakers in political showdowns like this.  There are so many delegates at stake that one state could really swing things drastically.  If you live in my home states, get out and vote.  Or go to John McCain’s cookout in Houston.  WTF.  Way to go after the issues.  Republicans need every vote they can get this time around and he’s over here debating tomato-based versus vinegar-based barbeque…or making slaw with mayo or not.  Pork or beef?  You decide!

texas debate tonight.

21 02 2008

Stay hip people.  Tonight is the Austin, Texas debate for the democrats and I’ll most likely be watching (around American Idol, Celebrity Rehab and DVRed treats like Josiah on Ellen- oh, the decisions).  Here is an outline courtesy of the New York Times with the states that are left and how many delegates are assigned to each.

http://politics.nytimes.com/election-guide/2008/primaries/democraticprimaries/index.html

With a good bit more fodder out there in the last few weeks since the last debate it should certainly be interesting.  Obama’s won ten primaries in a row and Clinton’s core voters are slowly being swayed.  Say what you want about empty promises and diatribes about hope and change and fluf.  It’s been said nd I agree, he may not have tons of experience at this level, but I want someone who doesn’t pull the same tricks, who hasn’t pandered to the same old people for decades and can maybe give America a fresh look.
